Effects of Dietary Sorbic Acid on Growth Performance and Skeletal Development of Kunming Mice

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary sorbic acid on growth performance and skeletal development of Kunming mice. Forty?eight Kunming mice ( 3?to 4?week?old ) were divided into 4 groups with 4 replicates in each group and 3 mice in each replicate according to the principle of no significant difference ( P>0.05) in body weight [ (25.07±0.14) g]. Mice in the control group were fed a basal diet, and mice in experimental groups ( groups Ⅰ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ) were fed the basal diet supplemented with 10, 15 and 20 g/kg sorbic acid, respectively. The trial lasted for 4 weeks. The results showed as follows: 1) compared with the control group, the final body weight, body weight gain and average daily feed intake of groupⅡwere significantly increased ( P<0.05) , and the average daily feed intake of group Ⅲ was significantly increased ( P<0.05). 2) Compared with the control group, the femur weight and length of resting zone, hypertrophic zone in growth plate in of groupⅡ were significantly increased ( P<0.05) , the length of hypertrophic zone in growth plate in femur of group Ⅰ was significantly increased ( P<0.05) , and the length of resting zone in growth plate in tibia of group Ⅲ was significantly increased ( P<0.05). 3) Compared with the control group, the serum calcium content of group Ⅲ was significantly increased ( P<0.05). In conclusion, a certain dose of sorbic acid supplementation can improve the growth performance of mice, and promote the bone development by increasing the bone weight and the chondrocyte proliferation in growth plate. Under the conditions of this ex?periment, dietary supplemented with 15 g/kg sorbic acid has the best effect.[ Chinese Journal of Animal Nu?trition, 2019, 31(11) :5184?5191]关键词
