A Study of the Transformation of the City Image of Changzhou in Newspapers (2000-2018)

摘要

Abstract

Changzhou has presented a positive image in newspapers as a city with keen determination to reform and aggressive motivation in practice since the 21st century. Combining the qualitative and quantitative analyses,as well as the visualization technology,taking "Changzhou" as the key word,the cluster analysis of the origins and keywords of the data retrieved from newspaper corpus of CNKI from 2000 to 2018 discloses the tendency of news reports on Changzhou in the state-run newspapers,the generality of the focus of keywords,as well as the correlation between city image changes and economy development. It is demonstrated that the overall development of Changzhou is centered around“the manufacturing industry",“the creative industry" and“the pharmaceutical industry”,which has received universal attention from national mainstream media,especially Science & Technology Daily with the distinctive features of“industrial transformation",“initiation of creative ideas",and "innovation of intelligence". The development and changes of the whole city image are highly consistent with the target of creating a well-known “intelligentialized industrial city”in the new century,embodying the courage of Changzhou Municipal Party Committee and Government in pursuing breakthroughs and adapting to the new development tendency both at home and abroad. Statistics also suggest that the channels of the external publicity of Changzhou should be positively expanded in We-media era,and the scope as well as the depth in the news reports on Changzhou should be furthered in detail.
