The Retirement of Palace Maid in Qing Dynasty
摘要
Abstract
There were not many palace maids in Qing Court, and for a long time, the palace maids were not the main body of the young women. However, in order to save money and food and balance the normal marriage of the members of the three banners of Neiwu Fu, the retirement of palace maids was established in Qing Dynasty. The retirement which the palace maids reached the official age was seldom. Actually disease and stupidity were the main causes, while the masters' factors and violation of palace rules also accounted for a considerable proportion. There were many dififculties in life of the palace maids after retirement, there were even those who entered the palace again. All in all, the retirement of palace maids avoided the fate which they spent their remaining years in court till death.关键词
