The Disciplinary Strategy of Revolutionary Story:How do Revolutionary Youths Grow——Critical Relfections on Fang Ji's Short Stories The Chronicle of the Mountain City and Beyond Consciousness

Abstract
In July 1952, Fang Ji was criticized by Journal of Literary and Art for his previous work The Chronicle of the Mountain City, which is the manifestation of the disciplinary strategy on behalf of the country's authority. It aimed at the“internal clean-up”of the creation and publication in Tianjin's literary and art circle. Reviewing the literature materials, it can be seen as the continuation and extension of criticism on Fang Ji from People's Daily. Fang Ji was implicated in the criticism but it did not reach the level of hostility in the process of cleaning-up the literary experience of Jinchaji District in the early days of the Republic. The Chronicle of the Mountain City and Beyond Consciousness, strictly speaking, are“sister stories”. A close reading of the two short stories reveals their inner connections. The stories involve psychological description as a creative method, and also concern the problem of creation in modernist literary concepts. Under the new context, revolutionary historical novels have to be effectively suppressed and disciplined. Beyond Consciousness is the real“secret”in Fang Ji's heart. When faced with criticism, it is easy to be mentioned again and strengthen the criticism to the writer. The long-term repressive treatment to Beyond Consciousness is exactly the embarrassing situation that Fang Ji and his revolutionary writing must face.关键词
