Abstract

A low fixed pattern noise(FPN)circuit implementation method for a global shutter frame difference sensor(FDS)is presented. The FDS encodes the corresponding event information according to the light intensity changes of two consecutive frames and outputs only 2-bit data for each pixel. The global shutter scheme is achieved by alternating two capacitors inside the pixel. The offset suppression tech-nique combines the differential delta sampling scheme for differentiator with the offset suppression scheme based on capacitor storage for comparators. The proposed 640×480 FDS is designed through a 0.11μm CMOS technology with a 7μm pixel pitch. According to the sim-ulation results,the offset of the proposed column-parallel event coding circuit is suppressed from 7.37 mV to 264μV. The FPN of the sen-sor is reduced from 0.75% to 0.096%. The sensor operates at 120 frame/s with the power consumption of 0.441 nJ/pixel×frame. The re-sults show that the sensor can compute temporal-difference images with low FPN.
