Abstract

In order to study the effect of flange groove depth on sealing performance of gasket in ball valve,two kinds of metal wound gaskets under three diameters(DN25,DN80,DN150)and three pressures(2.2,5.5,11.0 MPa)were selected as research objects.According to the gasket sealing theory,the minimum pre-tightening torque of bolts required by gaskets to maintain sealing was calculated,and the sealing performance of two kinds of metal wound gaskets was tested,and the optimal sealing thickness of gaskets of three kinds of diameter was obtained when the pressure was 2.2~11.0 MPa,and the optimal sealing thickness curve of DN25~DN150 diameter gaskets was plotted.The results show that the sealing effect of gasket can be achieved by adopting the minimum pre-tightening torque of bolt and selecting reasonable depth of flange groove in ball valve.When the design pressure of the ball valve is 2.0~10.0 MPa,it is recommended that the depth of the flange groove of the three diameters of DN25,DN80,DN150 ball valves is 2.6,2.4,2.0 mm,respectively.The sealing performance of the PTFE wound gasket used in the flange of ball valve is better than that of the graphite wound gasket under the same diameter,compression thickness and medium pressure.With the increase of medium pressure or gasket diameter,the optimal sealing thickness of gasket decreases gradually,but the sealing performance of gasket is not better with decreasing thickness.The research results have some reference value for the design of middle flange groove depth.
