EFFECTS OF ALTERNATE-DAY FASTING ON THE LEVELS OF RED AND WHITE BLOOD CELLS IN MICE

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of alternate-day fasting on the levels of red and white blood cells in mice.Methods Twelve three-month-old wild-type mice were randomly divided into two groups,with six mice in each group.The control group was on a free diet for three months,while the experimental group fasted every other day for three months.Then the two groups were examined for the levels of red and white blood cells.Results There were no significant differences in the levels of red blood cells and hemoglobin between the two groups(P>0.05).Compared with the control group,the experimental group showed significantly lower levels of white blood cells,eosinophils,and lymphocytes(t=2.359-4.778,P<0.05),with no signifi-cant differences in the levels of neutrophils,monocytes,and basophils(P>0.05).Conclusion Three-month alternate-day fas-ting does not affect the level of red blood cells but decreased the levels of white blood cells in mice.关键词
