The brilliance of"interweaving":A study on the technical exchange between Persian carpet and Chinese carpet weaving in the Sassanid period

Abstract
During the Sassanid Dynasty,Persia had the world's advanced textile and dyeing technology.At the same time,the development of Persian carpets was not isolated but existed as a link between Eastern and Western culture and technology in the process of historical evolution.Especially after Persian carpets were introduced into China along the Silk Road(the Sui and Tang Dynasties),their patterns,weaving techniques,and dyeing techniques had an important impact on the development of Chinese carpets at that time.Therefore,from the perspective of cultural exchange,the analysis of the origin of the relationship between Chinese and Persian carpets is of great value to the history of cultural exchange between Sassanid Persia and China. By using the method of image research and comparative research,we interpreted and studied the existing physical fragments of carpets,the patterns of painting bricks and the images of"dance carpets"in Dunhuang murals,and combined with the comparative analysis and systematic study of the exchange history between Sassanid Persia and Chinese traditional culture and art in a large number of documents,and then concluded that in terms of the history of relations between China and Iran,the exchange between China and Sassanid Persia reached its peak around the 7th century(the Sui Dynasty and early Tang Dynasty of China),and the exchange of carpet weaving technology was mainly reflected in three points.First,in terms of fabric trade between the two countries,there was a trend of being"from west to east",which was caused by the geographical environment of Persia and the self-sufficient characteristics of Chinese culture and the dominance of tribute and trade at that time.Second,in terms of cultural exchanges,the relationship of"two-way influence"was formed.On the one hand,the Sassanid fabrics were transported through the Silk Road in the Sui and Tang Dynasties,which had a great impact on the making process and formal beauty of Chinese carpets.On the other hand,Chinese woven carpets also formed a unique Chinese artistic style based on absorption and reference,and then were brought to the Middle East and Europe through Central Asia.Third,in terms of carpet technology,the carpet materials at this time were mainly wool,and after its being integrated with Chinese silk,cotton,gold,silver and other materials,an excellent reflective effect was formed.The theme pattern design and never fading brilliant colors endowed the carpets with a unique artistic production style. Based on the exchange of carpets and the archaeological observation of art exchange history and image information,this paper makes an extended study on the history of the exchange of arts and crafts between China and Sassanid Persia in the disclosure of the mutual learning history of carpet technology and patterns and dyes,and discovers the differences and connections between the two countries'woven carpets,as well as their unique artistic styles.These complex technologies,exquisite dyeing,and patterns play a very important role in the development and innovation of contemporary Chinese textile technology,and can also provide reference for the development of the current Silk Road Economic Belt.关键词
