Abstract

Traditional Chinese medicine residues(TCMRs)contain a large amount of lignocellulose resources in addition to residual medicinal ingredients,trace elements and so on.Herein,40 typical TCHRs were selected from 200 common traditional Chinese medicines(TCMs)for our research purpose,and their lignocellulose contents in both raw materials(TCMs)and extraction residues(TCMRs)were measured using the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's methods.As a result,the average lignocellulose contents of rhizomic Chinese medicines and leaf-flower-grass-fruit TCMs were 59.78%and 58.96%,respectively.In addition,the lignocellulose contents in 12 TCMs exceeded 70%.After decoction,the average lignocellulose contents of rhizomic TCMRs and leaf-flower-grass-fruit TCMRs increased to 68.82%and 67.54%,respectively.Meanwhile,the lignocellulose contents in 18 TCMRs surpassed 70%.According to the lignocellulose content and ratio of total structural carbohydrates to lignin content,the above 40 TCMRs were categorized to the following four groups for subsequent treatments:sugar production(8 TCMRs),composting by solid-state fermentation(27 TCMRs),bio-char forming(3 TCMRs),and incineration(2 TCMRs).These results and classification guidelines have instructive significance for discharging and utilizing TCMRs.
