翟理斯《聊斋志异》译本的中国形象建构
The Construction of Chinese Image in Giles's Translation of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio
摘要
Abstract
Herbert Allen Giles,living in China for more than 20 years,had been committed to sinology and the spread of Chinese lan-guage,literature and culture.His translation of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio is a classic English version,which has been exer-ting influence on the spread of the Chinese novel in the western world and offering a feasible path for western readers to better under-stand Chinese culture.Through analyses of Giles's selection of the original text,usage of the translation language and annotations,it can be concluded that his version presents a relatively objective and true image of China.But constrained by his identity,the living era,and his ideology,the translation inevitably connotates his subjective imagination and misinterpretation of Chinese culture.关键词
