Measurement of Middle-income Population Size Under the Background of Common Affluence
摘要
Abstract
Income distribution plays a crucial role in the domestic economic cycle and is also an essential pathway to achieve common affluence.Therefore,the expansion of middle-income groups is of great value and significance to China's social and eco-nomic development at the present stage.This paper employs parametric distributions(log-normal distribution,Pareto distribution)and non-parametric distribution(mode regression lifting tree model)through M-curve integration to construct and reveal relevant indices.The proposed index addresses the challenge of determining the middle-income threshold while enabling more objective longitudinal comparisons of the size of the middle-income population across corresponding regions.The paper applies this index to empirical analysis of urban residents'income data in China and finds that from 2014 to 2020,there has been a stable trend in the size of the middle-income population,and that despite shifts caused by COVID-19 epidemics leading to rightward and then leftward movements in income distribution positioning,overall urban residents'income has increased significantly.关键词
