Abstract

Euhexomyza schineri(Giraud, 1861), a new pest of poplar trees, has been discovered in some areas of Inner Mongolia in recent years. Previously, its distribution in China was only recorded in Qinghai Province. This study investigated the biological characteristics of Euhexomyza schineri , its host selection among different poplar species, and conducted experiments on its control.Euhexomyza schineri infests poplar twigs and stimulates the formation of galls. It has one generation per year, with secondinstar larvae overwintering and adults occurring in May of the following year. The damage caused by Euhexomyza schineri is the most severe on Populus hebeiensis, followed by Populus alba and Populus canadensis. The adult emergence period of Euhexomyza schineri is short, making it the optimal time for chemical control.
