Correlation Between Emotional Intelligence Level and Abnormal Brain Regions in Patients with Wilson's Disease and Common TCM Syndrome Types

Abstract
Objective To investigate the emotional intelligence level,dimension characteristics,and their correlations with ab-normal brain region in patients with Wilson's disease(WD)and common TCM syndrome types.Methods Emotional intelli-gence scale(EIS)was used to evaluate 103 WD patients with liver-gallbladder damp-heat syndrome,syndrome of phlegm-damp-ness blocking collaterals,or liver-kidney Yin deficiency syndrome and 47 healthy individuals,and brain MRI was performed for WD patients.Results Compared with the healthy control group,the syndrome of phlegm-dampness blocking collaterals group had significant reductions in total EIS score and the scores of expression ability,self-management,and management of others(P＜0.05),and the liver-kidney Yin deficiency syndrome group had significant reductions in total EIS score and the scores of all four factors(P＜0.05),while the liver-gallbladder damp-heat syndrome group had no significant changes in total EIS score and the scores of each dimension(P＞0.05).Compared with the liver-gallbladder damp-heat syndrome group,the syndrome of phlegm-dampness blocking collaterals group had significant reductions in total EIS score and the score of expression ability(P＜0.05),and the liver-kidney Yin deficiency syndrome group had significant reductions in total EIS score and the scores of e-motional perception ability and self-management(P＜0.05);there were no significant differences in total EIS score and the scores of each dimension between the syndrome of phlegm-dampness blocking collaterals group and the liver-kidney Yin defi-ciency syndrome group(P＞0.05).WD patients with liver-gallbladder damp-heat syndrome mainly had injury in the basal gan-glia,brainstem,and thalamus,those in the syndrome of phlegm-dampness blocking collaterals group mainly had injury in the basal ganglia,brainstem,and thalamus,and those in the liver-kidney Yin deficiency group mainly had brain atrophy and injury in the basal ganglia and brainstem.Frontal cortex injury was positively correlated with total EIS score and the score of expression ability in WD patients(P＜0.05),and globus pallidus injury was negatively correlated with total EIS score and the score of management of others in WD patients(P＜0.05).Conclusion There is a relatively low emotional intelligence level in WD pa-tients with syndrome of phlegm-dampness blocking collaterals or liver-kidney Yin deficiency syndrome,while the WD patients with liver-gallbladder damp-heat syndrome have normal emotional intelligence.Injury in the basal ganglia and brainstem is rela-tively common among the WD patients with these three syndrome types,and frontal cortex injury and globus pallidus injury are influencing factors for the level of emotional intelligence in WD patients.关键词
