摘要

Abstract

To address the difficulty of ultrasonic testing for the austenitic stainless steel welds in nuclear reactor coolant pipes,this paper studies the influence of coarse grains in austenitic stainless steel on ultrasonic beam propagation through microscopic structure observation and process simulation.It determines a preliminary phased array ultrasonic testing solution for austenitic stainless steel.It analyzes the advantages of phased array ultrasonic testing using sectorial scan from linear array transducers and total focusing method(TFM)imaging from matrix array transducers,and compares the sensitivity,resolution and signal-to-noise ratio for detecting surface and various internal flaws by using reference blocks and simulation blocks.The results demonstrate that using TFM imaging excited by dual matrix array(DML)ultrasonic transducers is feasible for inspecting the austenitic stainless steel welds.
