Abstract
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the world's longest cross-sea bridge.The main navigation channel of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is close to the Hong Kong Airport.To avoid impacting the airport,a 6.7 km immersed tunnel solution is adopted.At tunnel's both ends,artificial islands are constructed to facilitate the transition between the bridge and tunnel.The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the first large-scale cross-sea immersed tunnel built in China.The Island-Tunnel Project is the governing project of the bridge.The project is located in an open sea area with complex hydrological,meteorological,and geological conditions.The Pearl River Estuary is one of the busiest navigation channels in the world,posing significant safety risks.The project also needs to navigate through the core protection area for the Chinese white dolphin,making ecological protection a challenging endeavor.The construction is undertaken using a design-build con-tract model,and innovative techniques are developed for rapid island-building and the cross-sea tunneling process.The results show that throughout the seven years of large-scale offshore construction for the Island-Tunnel Project,there are zero casualties,ensuring both the safety of workers and the effective protection of the biological species and ecological environment in the Chinese white dolphin protection zone.关键词
