Gender Geography:On the Writing of Transnational Homeland in Caribbean American Novels

Abstract
In the Caribbean American novels,the spatial representation of"home"reflects a heterogeneous process of transnational homes,which challenges the traditional relationship between spatial division and gender division.On the one hand,the concept of home for transnational immigrants takes place in the social field between their old homeland and the new one,and is constantly blurred;On the other hand,the transnational entanglement of gender and geography has led to variations in gender patterns.The home narrative of female immigrants about forgetting and memory presents a contrasting textual significance:their American homeland painting shows the tone of open-mindedness and advancement,while inten-tionally or unintentionally retaining the Caribbean home background color.The nostalgia narrative of men's homes is relat-ed to the family private domain,showing a reducing trend of closed and dimensionality,expressing the crisis of retreat or loss of subjectivity.As a result,Caribbean American writers have overturned the neat opposition between the men/public domain and women/private domain,shaken up the traditional gender power structure and reproduced a new gender opera-tion model in the transnational space.关键词
