Evolution of Relationship between Carbon Emissions and Economic Development——An Analysis based on the Data of 11 Prefecture-level Cities in Jiangxi Province

Abstract

In order to help Jiangxi cities to better formulate emission reduction plans and clarify the relationship between carbon emissions and economic growth in Jiangxi prefecture-level cities,according to the energy consumption data from 2011 to 2022,the IPCC carbon accounting method,K-means clustering method and Tapio decoupling method are comprehensively used to analyze the evolution of carbon emissions and the clustering characteristics of GDP of 11 prefecture-level cities in Jiangxi and their decoupling relationship with carbon emissions.The results show that all prefecture-level cities in Jiangxi province have shown a decoupling state,and the decoupling state of 11 prefecture-level cities is relatively stable.The decoupling state of carbon emissions in prefecture-level cities in Jiangxi province is mainly weak decoupling.The dependence of economic growth on energy consumption has decreased,but the number of strong decoupling is far less than that of weak decoupling.At the same time,the carbon emissions of cities in Jiangxi province have maintained a positive growth,and there is still a big gap from the peak after complete decoupling.Using carbon emission intensity and GDP indicators,11 prefecture-level cities are divided into 4 categories by clustering algorithm.The clustering results of carbon emission-economic development level of 11 prefecture-level cities show the characteristics of grade dispersion,and the level of carbon emission tends to be stable after slow growth.
