Abstract

In order to investigate the macroscopic compaction characteristics and fine compaction mechanism of sand-gravel filler in the vibration process,the discrete element method was used to simulate the vibration compaction test,analyze the effects of the number of rolling passes and paving thickness on the macroscopic compaction characteristics of the fill materials,and based on the distribution of the particle velocity and displacement and the contact relationship to reveal the fine compaction mechanism.The results show that the numerical model can better simulate the compaction process of roadbed in the field,and the effective compaction depth of weak vibration on sand-gravel filler is around 252 mm;in the vibratory compaction of sand-gravel filler,coarse particles and fine particles tend to have different divisions.Coarse particles act as a stabilizing skeleton structure and can effectively conduct forces.The fine particles mainly fill the skeleton structure in the form of free particles to promote further compacting of the fill material.
