Abstract

In this paper,(TiB+La2O3)/TA19 composites with reinforcing phases showing a reticulated distribution were prepared by ball milling and discharge plasma sintering techniques.The microstructure,physical phase structure and fracture properties of the compos-ite powder and composites were characterized and analyzed by means of scanning electron microscope(SEM)and X-ray diffractometer(XRD),and the room temperature and high temperature mechanical properties of the composites were tested by universal testing ma-chine.The results showed that the addition of LaB6 particles could significantly improve the tensile strength of the material.With the in-crease of the content of reinforcement,the organization of the composite material changed from Weissian to Isonet basket-like organiza-tion;the grain was refined after sintering,and the mechanical properties were improved.The room temperature tensile strength of the composites continued to increase with the increase of the reinforcement content,and the elongation decreased.When the mass fraction of LaB6 was 0.2%,the elongation of the composite material was the best(17.5%);when the mass fraction of LaB6 was 0.5%,the tensile strength of the composite material was the highest(1288 MPa),which was 13.70%higher than that of the matrix alloy.The strengthen-ing mechanism was mainly the role of fine crystal strengthening and load bearing of the reinforcement.At 650℃,the strength of the composites increased with the increase of the content of LaB6,and when the mass fraction of the reinforcement was 0.5%,the compos-ites had the highest tensile strength of 607 MPa,which was 10.31%higher than that of TA19 titanium alloy matrix.The strengthening mechanism was mainly the load transfer of the reinforcement.This study was of great significance for the study of room and high temper-ature mechanical properties of titanium matrix composites with different contents of reinforcements.
