Public participation intention in food safety risk governance:Influencing mechanism and improvement strategy

Abstract

In order to enhance public participation intention in food safety risk governance,an analytical framework was constructed based on the extended theory of planned behavior and theory of attitude-context-behavior.An empirical study was conducted using structural equation modeling,bootstrap mediation effect testing,hierarchical regression methods,and micro data to examine the influencing mechanism of public participation intention in food safety risk governance.The results indicate that:There are significant positive relationships between attitude,subjective norm,behavior control,perceived risk,past experience,and governance intention.Perceived risk and past experience mediate the relationship between attitude and governance intention.Policy regulation moderates the relationship between attitude and governance intention.Therefore,enhancing public awareness of food safety risks,optimizing public participation experiences in food safety governance,improving attitudes towards public participation in food safety governance and creating a policy environment that promotes public participation are necessary to promote social co-governance of food safety risks.
