Evaluation of the Soil Nutrients in the Main Producing Area of Watermelons and Melons in Gansu Province

Abstract
Taking the main producing areas of watermelons and melons in Gansu Province,this paper aimed to analyse and evaluate the soil nutrient status of surface soil so as to provide scientific guidance for rational fertilization.The topsoil samples were collected from 143 plots in 14 counties,and the contents of soil organic matter and other nutrients were determined and compared.The study confirmed that the nutrient contents of the soil showed an increasing trend in the main producing areas of watermelons and melons in Gansu Province over the past decade.From 2016 to 2020,the contents of organic matter,total nitrogen,total phosphorus and total potassium in soil reached 14.58 g/kg,1.10 g/kg,0.94 g/kg and 22.43 g/kg,respectively,while the contents of soil alkali-hydrolytic nitrogen,available phosphorus and available potassium reached 58.02 mg/kg,22.61 mg/kg and 173.65 mg/kg,respectively.Overall,the content of organic matter was in the lower middle level,the content of total nitrogen was in the upper middle level,the content of total phosphorus was in the middle level,and the content of total potassium was in the high level.The content of alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen was in the lower middle level,and the content of available phosphorus and available potassium were all in the high level.The organic content in western area was lower than that in the central arid area of Gansu,but the soil total nitrogen content in western area was the highest with no significant difference found in central arid area and eastern semi-arid area.Contents of total phosphorus and total potassium among different areas were not significantly different.The contents of alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen and available phosphorus in western area were higher than that in central and eastern areas,which reached medium and high levels,respectively,in western area while the content in central and eastern parts were still at low and upper-middle levels.The content of available potassium was higher in central area than other regions,but it was at a high level in western and eastern areas.The soil nutrient contents were lower in the main watermelon and melon producing areas of Gansu Province,and the distribution was also unbalanced.Organic fertilizer should be applied more,the ratio of nitrogen fertilizer should be increased at medium to late stage,whereas phosphate,potassium fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer should be supplemented appropriately.关键词
