Abstract

Objective:To explore the relationship between fear of missing out and mental health of college students,as well as the mediating role of cognitive failure and the moderating role of negative perfectionism.Methods:A ques-tionnaire survey is conducted among 970 the college students by using the Fear of Missing Out Scale,the Cognitive Failures Questionnaire,the Chinese version of Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and General health ques-tionnaire.Results:①Fear of missing out level of college students could significantly negatively predict mental health(β=-0.32,95%CI=[-0.38,-0.25]);②Cognitive failures partial mediatied the effect of fear of missing out level on mental health(β=-0.13,95%CI=[-0.16,-0.10]);③Negative Perfectionism moderatied the effect of fear of missing out level on mental health(β=-0.09,95%CI=[-0.14,-0.04]),and only in college students with high negative perfec-tionism,fear of missing out could significantly negatively predict their mental health level(βsimple=-0.19,95%CI=[-0.27,-0.10]).Conclusion:In addition to directly affecting their mental health,fear of missing out also indirectly af-fects their mental health through the mediation effect of cognitive failures,and negative perfectionism plays a moder-ating role.
