The Impact of Market Segmentation on Export Technical Sophistication of Manufacturing Industry:

Abstract
Based on the background of building a unified national market,the article theoretically explores the relationship between the distortion phenomenon of market segmentation and the export technical sophistication of the manufacturing industry in the process of es-tablishing a unified domestic market,and empirically tests the influence mechanism and spatial spillover effect of domestic market seg-mentation on the export technical sophistication of manufacturing industry.The study finds that:domestic market segmentation signifi-cantly suppresses the export technical sophistication of manufacturing industry,which still holds after considering the endogeneity issue and robustness test;and the impact of market segmentation on the export technical sophistication of manufacturing industry varies at dif-ferent time stages and geographical locations;the test of impact mechanism shows that market segmentation suppresses the export tech-nical sophistication of manufacturing industry mainly through two channels:impeding industrial agglomeration and technological change process;further study finds that when the export technical sophistication of manufacturing industry crosses a certain threshold,the neg-ative impact of market segmentation on the export technical sophistication of manufacturing industry decreases marginal;after consider-ing the spatial spillover effect,market segmentation has a significant negative spatial spillover effect on the export technical sophistica-tion of manufacturing industry.The article concludes that breaking down market segmentation is not only a domestic market guarantee for achieving the goal of"manufacturing power",but also a positive exploration of the Chinese modernization approach to integrating"active government"and"efficient market".关键词
