The Psychological Costs and Compensatory Behavior of Compliant Ostracizers:The Moderating Role of Ostracized's Warmth and Competence

Abstract
Objective:To explore the psychological and behavioral reactions of compliant ostracizers to ostracize the high warmth and high competence,the high warmth and low competence,the low warmth and high competence,and the low warmth and low competence.Methods:In experiment 1,the Cyberball game was used to manipulate compliant ostracism,and the psychological costs of compliant ostracizers to ostracize others'were measured.In experiment 2,situational imagi-nation was used to manipulate compliant ostracism,and the compensatory behavior of compliant ostracizers to ostracize oth-ers'was measured.Results:Experiment 1 showed that compared with ostracizing the low warmth and low competence,the psychological costs of compliant ostracizers were higher to ostracizing the high warmth and high competence,and the psy-chological costs of their own were affected by the warmth traits of the ostracized.Experiment 2 showed that compared with ostracizing the low warmth and low competence,the compensatory behavior of compliant ostracizers was higher to ostraciz-ing the high warmth and high competence,and the compensatory behavior of their own was affected by the warmth and com-petence traits of the ostracized.Conclusion:The warmth and competence of the excluded would affect the psychological costs and compensatory behavior of compliant ostracizers,and psychological costs related to the social-oriented context would enhance the primacy of warmth effect;Compensation behaviors related to the work-oriented context would weaken the primacy of warmth effect.关键词
