The Heterogeneity of Early Adolescent Self-Esteem Development Trajectory under Left-Behind Predicament:The Role of Parental Care and Friendship Quality

Abstract
Objective:To explore the heterogeneity of self-esteem development trajectory and the role of parental care and friendship quality among early adolescent under the left-behind predicament.Methods:Inventory of Self-Esteem Scale,Parental Care Questionnaire and Friendship Quality Questionnaire were administrated to 461 left-behind adoles-cents with left-behind experience,and followed up for three consecutive times from 7th to 9th grade.Results:①There were marked differences in the trajectories of self-esteem among the left-behind early adolescents(including former left-behind and currently left-behind)during the three years of junior middle school,which could be classified into three groups:"low-falling group","moderate-slowly declining group",and"high-rising group".②These findings suggested that the left-behind predicament significantly negatively predicted the development of early adolescents'self-esteem,and pa-rental care and friendship quality significantly positively predicted the development of left-behind adolescents'self-es-teem.Conclusion:Left-behind predicament,parental care and friendship quality jointly affect the development trajectory of self-esteem of left-behind junior middle school students.Among them,left-behind predicament played an inhibiting role,while parental care and friendship quality played a promoting role.关键词
