Longitudinal Mediating Role of Psychological Resilience between Insecure Attachment and Mental Health Problems in Left-behind Children:A Follow-up Study

Abstract
Objective:The purpose of the current study was to explore the longitudinal mediating effect of psychological resilience between insecure attachment and mental health problems in left-behind children.Methods:A total of 652 left-behind children were followed up three times by the Adolescent Attachment Questionnaire,Resilience Scale,and Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire.Results:①Correlation analysis showed that insecure attachment(T1),psychological resil-ience(T1 & T2),and internalizing and externalizing problems(T1 & T3)correlated significantly with each other.②After con-trolling for gender,psychological resilience,internalizing and externalizing problems at T1,path analysis indicated that the direct effect of insecure attachment at T1 on internalizing problems at T3 was not significant,but the direct effect on external-izing problems at T3was significant.Psychological resilience at T2 mediated the association between insecure attachment at T1 and internalizing and externalizing problems at T3.Conclusion:Psychological resilience had a mediating effect on the re-lationship between insecure attachment and internalizing and externalizing problems in left-behind children.Therefore,strengthening the intervention of left behind children's psychological resilience will help to reduce the risk of their mental health problems.关键词
