Aquaporin 4 and the glymphatic system in intracerebral hemorrhage

Abstract
The glymphatic system(GS)is a newly defined,brain-wide perivascular transport network between cerebrospinal fluid and interstitial solutes,promoting the clearance of metabolic waste from the brain.This complex network consists of the periarterial cerebrospinal fluid inflow pathway,astrocyte-mediated fluid and solutes convective transport supported by aquaporin 4(AQP4),and perivenous outflow pathway.Dysfunction of the GS is related to various neurological diseases and plays a crucial role in the pathological and physiological process of brain edema after intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH).Analyzing the relevant research on the brain GS and AQP4 in physiological and ICH conditions can provide further insights into their potential applications in risk assessment,diagnosis,prognosis,and treatment after ICH,as well as their relevance to traditional Chinese medicine theories,such as the'Xuanfu'theory in stroke.关键词
