Origin,Strategy and Effect of the Work of Providing Special Care for Families of Martyrs and Military Service Personnel in Chengdu in the Early Stage of the People's Republic of China(P.R.C.)

Abstract
In the early stage of the founding of the People's Republic of China(P.R.C.),providing special care and preferential treatment for families of martyrs and military service personnel in an orderly manner was a vital issue concerning political stability,social stability and the interests of the people.The Chengdu Municipal People's Government strictly followed the instructions of the Central Government and implemented the policies and arrangements laid down by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC)in regard to providing special care and preferential treatment for families of martyrs and military service personnel.In terms of material preferential treatment,families of martyrs and military service personnel were given necessities of life,especially food,and allowances.In rural areas,the government arranged for special personnel to cultivate land for such families,whereas in urban areas,the government encouraged such families to engage in production and employment with facilitative measures.In terms of spiritual preferential treatment,the government organized mass activities in praise and support of and in homage to revolutionary martyrs and their families.Meanwhile,the government paid special attention to resolving pressing problems facing the families of martyrs and military service personnel,such as children's education,housing,medical care,et cetera.Thanks to the leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the participation of the people,the work of providing special care and preferential treatment for families of martyrs and military service personnel had achieved fruitful results.While effectively solving the problems facing the families of martyrs and military service personnel in their life and production,such work had also contributed to the success of national construction and the war to resist U.S.aggression and aid Korea and at the same time conduced to maintaining social stability and promoting economic development.关键词
