The Impact of Environmental Information Disclosure on High-quality Economic Development:Evidence from the Yangtze River Economic Belt

Abstract
Green is a distinctive background of high-quality development,as an important measure of ecological civilization construction in China,environmental information disclosure is of great significance to promote high-quality economic development.Based on the panel data of 108 cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2004 to 2020,this quasi-natural experiment was carried out with the help of the environmental information disclosure system,and the impact of the implementation of the environmental information disclosure system on high-quality economic development was explored through the PSM-DID model,and its impact path was further analyzed.The results show that the disclosure of environmental information is conducive to improving the level of high-quality economic development,and this conclusion is still valid after a series of robustness tests.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the promotion effect of environmental information disclosure on high-quality economic development varies with location and city size.Specifically,the effect is more significant in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and in areas with larger populations.Mechanism analysis finds that environmental information disclosure ultimately promotes high-quality economic development through three paths:improving technological innovation level,promoting industrial structure upgrading and attracting foreign direct investment inflows.Further analysis of the regulatory effect shows that public participation has a U-shaped regulatory effect on environmental information disclosure and foreign direct investment.Based on the perspective of new development concepts,this study provides an important reference for promoting high-quality economic development and ecological civilization construction in the Yangtze River Economic Belt,and puts forward policy suggestions for environmental governance from the perspective of digitalization.关键词
