Evidence summary for oral health management in cognitively impaired elder adults
摘要
Abstract
Objective Through the selection,summarization,collation,and analysis of domestic and international evidence on o-ral health management for the elderly with cognitive impairment,we have obtained the best evidence for oral health management in ol-der adults with cognitive impairment.Methods The best clinical practice evidence from the BMJ,UpToDate,Registered Nurses As-sociation of Ontario(RNAO),National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE),Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network(SIGN),Guidelines International Network(GIN),Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence-Based Healthcare Centre in Australia,Cochrane Library,PubMed,Web of Science,CINAHL,Wanfang Data,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Sinomed,Alzheimer's Society,Alzheimer's Association,British Disability and Oral Association,and Australian Institute for Health and Welfare were systematically searched and were included in all evidence for the oral health management of the elderly with cognitive impairment.This includes clinical practice guidelines,evidence summaries,clinical decisions,expert consensus and systematic reviews with a retrieval period from the establishment of the database to June 2023.Two researchers independently conducted literature screening and quality evalu-ation,and evidence was extracted,summarized,and collated according to the theme.Results A total of 8 documents were included,including 2 guidelines,2 systematic reviews,and 4 expert consensuses.Through the joint discussion of two researchers,a total of 55 pieces of evidence related to the oral health management of elderly people with cognitive impairment were extracted and summarized,and 8 themes were summarized,namely,oral diseases and cognition,assessment and monitoring,needs and treatment responses,oral care utensils,implementation of oral care,precautions for oral care,denture management,and health education.Conclusion Com-munity home-based and long-term care institution staff should fully consider the characteristics and oral health management needs of elderly people with dementia and carry out individualized oral health management for elderly people with cognitive impairment in combination with the specific health environment and population characteristics,to ensure a good oral environment for elderly people with cognitive impairment and control the further development of cognitive impairment.关键词
