How does Internet Use Reduce Women's Desire to Have Children?

Abstract
The low fertility rate is the key issues that the Party and the country urgently need to solve.With the prevail of the Internet,it is of great practical significance to explore the role of Internet use in the formation of low fertility,which is beneficial for the government to issue accurate policies.Based on the data of CGSS2013,2015 and 2017,this paper uses Poisson regression model to study the impact of Internet use on female fertility inten-tion.It is found that Internet use reduces women's willingness to bear children through two ways.Firstly,it increases women's cost of childbirth through providing part-time job for women and increasing their income.Secondly,it reduces the stability of marriage through spreading negative infor-mation about family and marriage and squeezing out the common leisure time between husband and wife.Heterogeneity analysis showed that there was heterogeneity in household registration type,political identity,employment sector and age of women.Internet use significantly reduced the fertility in-tention of women in urban areas,non-party members and non-state-owned sectors,and inhibited the fertility intention of women aged 18 to 24.This pa-per provides a new explanation for the formation of low fertility society in China under the background of Internet popularization,and provides empirical evidence for making population public policy in the information age.关键词
