Evaluation on the effectiveness of the reform of nursing ethics course with a core of improving nursing students' professional identity

Abstract

Objective To explore the effectiveness of the Nursing Ethics curriculum reform program centered on developing a sense of professional identity on enhancing nursing students'sense of professional identity.Methods 100 nursing students from class 2020(before the curriculum reform)were selected as the control group,and 94 nursing students from class 2021(after the curriculum reform)were selected as the experimental group.The experimental group adopted the nursing ethics curriculum reform program with the core of enhancing professional identity,and the control group adopted the traditional teaching program.The student performance and professional identity scores of the two groups were compared,and the students'subjective evaluation of the curriculum was analyzed.Results Students'final grades were significantly better in the experimental group than that in the control group.The experimental group scored higher than the control group in the total career identity score and in all dimensions of career self-concept,retention benefits and resignation risks,social comparison and self-reflection,autonomy of career choice,and social persuasion.The reformed model of Nursing Ethics was recognized by students in the experimental group.Conclusions The curriculum reform of Nursing Ethics focusing on improving professional identity can effectively improve the academic performance,professional identity,and comprehensive quality of nursing students.
