Parental material punishment and subjective well-being among rural adolescents:Chain mediation effect

Abstract
Objective:To explore the relationship between parental material punishment and rural adolescents'sub-jective well-being and the mediating role of materialism and sense of control.Methods:A total of 1081 adolescents in a rural area of Henan Province were tested by parental material punishment scale,sense of control scale,materialism value scale and index of well-being.Results:Parental material punishment was positively correlated with materialism(r=0.11,P＜0.01),and negatively correlated with both sense of control and subjective well-being(r=-0.20,-0.11;P＜0.01).Materialism was negatively correlated with both sense of control and subjective well-being(r=-0.19,-0.10;P＜0.01).There was a significantly positive correlation between sense of control and subjective well-being(r=0.42,P＜0.01).Bootstrap mediation effect test showed that sense of control had a significantly mediating effect between parental material punishment and subjective well-being,with an effect value of-0.06.The mediation effect of materialism and sense of control on parental material punishment and subjective well-being was also sig-nificant,with an effect value of-0.01.Conclusion:Parental material punishment can not only negatively affect the sub-jective well-being of rural adolescents,but also can affect the subjective well-being of rural adolescents through the sole mediating effect of sense of control and the chain mediating effect of materialism and sense of control.关键词
