Digital Government Construction and Common Prosperity of Urban and Rural Areas:Theoretical Mechanism and Empirical Test

Abstract
The comprehensive layout and in-depth development of digital government inject new momentum into the com-mon prosperity of urban and rural areas.Based on the panel data of 268 cities at prefecture level and above in China from 2012 to 2021,this paper examines the impact and mechanism of digital government construction on common prosperity of urban and rural areas from multiple dimensions.The empirical analysis results indicate that the construction of digital government can effectively promote the common prosperity of urban and rural areas,and its promoting effect on the sharing sub-dimension is significantly higher than that of co-construction and co-prosperity.This result still holds after a series of robustness tests and endogeneity tests.Mechanism test has confirmed that new urbanization,factor marketization,and industrial digitization play a mediating role in the process of driving urban and rural common prosperity through digital government construction.The heterogeneity test results con-firm that compared to central,western,northeastern and high-end cities,the construction of digital government has a more signifi-cant driving effect on the common prosperity of urban and rural areas in eastern and general cities.关键词
