Abstract
To compare the value of conventional ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)in the assessment of high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU)ablation effects on the normal canine spleen,six healthy adult Chinese indigenous dogs underwent extracorporeal spleen HIFU ablation.Conventional ultrasound and CEUS were performed immediately post-ablation(Day 0)and on Days 3,7,14,21,and 28 to evaluate the size,morphology,echogenicity changes,and boundaries of the ablation zone,measuring the left-right and maximum cranio-caudal diameters.The results showed that in conventional ultrasound mode,the ablation zone exhibited a mixed echogenicity structure of high,iso,and low echogenicity with a relatively unclear boundary compared to normal tissue.In CEUS mode,the ablation zone appeared as a uniformly hypoechoic structure with a clear boundary.Median measurements of the left-right diameter in CEUS were significantly larger than in conventional ultrasound at both immediate and Day 3 post-ablation,with statistical significance(P<0.05).However,on Day 7,14,21,and 28 post-ablation,there was no statistically significant difference in measurements between the two methods(P>0.05).Measurements of the maximum cranio-caudal diameter in both methods on Day 3 were significantly larger than immediate post-ablation,with statistical significance(P<0.05).Subsequently,the maximum cranio-caudal diameter showed a trend of continuous reduction compared to immediate post-ablation.The results indicate that in the assessment of canine spleen HIFU ablation effects and dynamic monitoring of changes in the ablation zone post-treatment,CEUS is more sensitive and accurate in displaying the location and extent of the ablation zone than conventional ultrasound.However,for simplifying the examination process and reducing costs,conventional ultrasound can also be used for postoperative dynamic monitoring of the ablation zone.关键词
