Effects of Different Traditional Chinese Medicine Preparations on Serum Antioxidant Capacity and Anti-inflammatory Effects in Heat Stress Sows

Abstract
The high-temperature and high-humidity breeding environment is a significant factor causing heat stress in gestating sows.Heat stress can induce oxidative damage and inflammatory responses in the sows,severely affecting its production performance and economic benefits.In order to investigate the clinical efficacy of different traditional Chinese medicine preparations in alleviating heat stress in sows,75 healthy sows with a pregnancy age of around 107 days were randomly divided into three groups:Group A(Yupingfeng granules group),Group B(Maxingshisan granules group),and Group C(Heat stress model group).Daily temperature and humidity in the barns were recorded,and the daily average temperature and humidity index(THI)was calculated.Commercially available Yupingfeng granules and Maxingshisan granules were used as experimental drugs and mixed into the feed in the same breeding environment.Serum antioxidant capacity and inflammatory factor levels were measured at three time points(before administration,7 days after administration,and 21 days after administration).The results showed that during the experimental period(21 days),the daily average temperature in the pens was higher than the high-temperature critical value of 27℃,and THI values were all above 72,indicating that the sows were in a constant state of heat stress.The clinical manifestations of the medicated groups(Group A and Group B)showed some improvement compared with the Heat stress model group(Group C).Specifically,compared with the Heat stress model group,after continuous administration for 7 days,the Yupingfeng granules group showed significantly in-crease in serum superoxide dismutase(SOD)and nitric oxide(NO)levels(P<0.05),and significantly decrease in interleukin-1β(IL-1β)and interleukin-6(IL-6)levels(P<0.05).After continuous administration for 21 days,the Yupingfeng granules group showed extremely significant increase in serum SOD and NO levels(P<0.01),significantly decrease in malondialdehyde(MDA)levels(P<0.05),and significantly increase in total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)and reduced glutathione(GSH)levels(P<0.05),as well as extremely significant decrease in IL-1 β and IL-6 levels(P<0.01).The Maxingshisan granules group showed ex-tremely significant decrease in serum MDA levels(P<0.01),and significantly increases in SOD,T-AOC,and GSH levels(P<0.05).The results indicate that Yupingfeng granules can improve the serum antioxidant capacity and modulate inflammatory factor levels in sows.Maxingshisan granules can improve serum antioxidant capacity.Both the traditional Chinese medicine preparations can enhance the animals'resistance and alleviate heat stress in sows.关键词
