Abstract

Objective To establish rats model of brain Cryptococcus infection and exploring the MRI imaging findings.Methods Thirty SD rats were injected with 10 μL of Cryptococcus neoformans suspension at a concentration of 1×106 CFU/mL using stereotaxic techniques.After then,T1WI,T2WI sequence scannings were performed on days 14,21,and 28.MRI was used to dynamically monitor the infection situation in rats brain,pathological dissection of the rats brain was used to observe tissue morphology.Results The success rate of the cryptococcal infection rats model established with a con-centration of 1×106 CFU/mL of C.neoformans suspension was 73.33%,with 60%cryptococcal granuloma and 13.33%cryptococcal meningitis.Other 20%rats showed no significant abnormal changes.The brain cryptococcal granuloma in rats showed round or nodular abnormal signal shadow in the caudate nucleus on MRI,low signal on T1WI and high signal on T2WI.MRI manifestations of meningitis include obvious linear abnormal signals in the meninges and ependyma.Conclusion The rats brain C.neoformans infection model was established with a concentration of 1×106 CFU/mL of C.neoformans suspension,which took a shorter time and had a higher success rate of inoculation.The MRI findings were highly consistent with pathological results,providing a good research model for the diagnosis and effectiveness evaluation of human brain cryp-tococcal infection.
