Abstract

To meet the demand for empty containers at container stations and ports and establish a green and sustainable transportation system,this paper studied the problem of transporting empty containers during multi-planning periods based on the lowest total operating costs and lowest carbon and sulfur gas emissions.Considering the uncertainty of the supply and demand of empty containers,trapezoidal fuzzy numbers were applied for processing to build a fuzzy chance-constrained programming model,which was transformed into a deterministic form and then solved and analyzed by the NSGA-II algorithm.The results show that transportation costs are the main component influencing total operating costs,while the sea-rail intermodal transportation mode contributes more to reducing total costs and carbon and sulfur gas emissions.Under the mixed transportation mode of foldable containers and standard containers,the container purchase cost is a key factor influencing the utilization of foldable containers.After properly reducing the purchase cost of foldable containers,the mixed transportation mode can achieve lower total operating costs than the transportation of full standard containers.Meanwhile,the adoption of an appropriate proportion of foldable containers can reduce carbon and sulfur gas emissions,thereby benefiting green and low-carbon development in the transportation sector.
