摘要

Abstract

Cadhearin 23(CDH23)is a component in the tip-links of inner ear hair cell stereocilia bundle.Muta-tions and variants in CDH23 have been found to cause a broad spectrum of hearing loss including syndromic hearing loss and congenital or progressive non-syndromic hearing loss.Based on our own research,we summarize the most im-portant discoveries in the past and update the recent research on the causal relationship between mutations and variants of CDH23 and noise-induced hearing loss(NIHL)as well as age-related hearing loss(ARHL)in this review.Current re-search data suggest that some mutations and variants of CDH23 cause increased susceptibility to NIHL and may contrib-ute to ARHL.We also discuss the current understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying CDH23 disease-causing mutations in hope of providing valuable information to researchers and students in this field.
