The Axial Compression Mechanism and Load Capacity of Petal-Shaped Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular Columns

Abstract
Petal-shaped concrete-filled steel tubular(CFST)columns are aesthetically appealing.The cross-sectional composition of petal-shaped CFST columns was defined.The section offset ratio and section symmetry coefficient were proposed to identify the cross-section properties of the petal shape.Cross stiffeners were proposed to improve the composite effect.Based on pier columns in an engineering project and a verified finite element model,the load-resisting mechanisms of petal-shaped CFST stub columns under axial compression was studied.The influence of the stiffener thickness,concrete strength,steel strength,opening diameter and spacing of the stiffener were investigated.The matching relationship between the thickness of the stiffener and steel tube was studied.Based on the theoretical analysis and extensive finite element analysis results,the stiffener thickness to steel tube wall thickness ratio and the nominal tube diameter to thickness ratio were quantitatively suggested.The calculation formulas of axial load-carrying capacity of petal-shaped CFSTs were proposed.关键词
