Abstract

There are many historic buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province. Among them, a kind of bluestone was used as building components. The function and main parts of Fuzhou bluestone in local traditional architecture were investigated. The chemical composition, phase composition, microstructure and main physical properties of bluestone samples in different areas of Fuzhou City were analyzed. Combined with the geographical characteristics of Fuzhou City, the main degradation mechanism of bluestones was obtained. This will provide a theoretical reference for the restoration of the ancient buildings in Fuzhou in the future. The research shows that Fuzhou bluestone is mainly composed of frame silicate minerals, and it has compact microstructure and good mechanical properties, and therefore, it has the characteristics of strong durability. The main cracking mechanism of Fuzhou bluestone may be physical damage and chemical erosion, and there may be the phenomena of local discoloration, holes and even spalling if exposed outdoors for a long time. Hence, it should be noted and corresponding measures should be taken in the protection of traditional buildings.
