Heterogeneous nanostructured NiO/KNbO3 for enhanced hydrogen evolution reaction

Abstract
The design of low-cost,efficient and long-term stable catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)is crucially important for the industrial implementation of water-splitting technology.In this study,a NiO/KNbO3 catalyst with heterogeneous nanostructures was prepared using a sol-gel method combined with subsequent thermal decomposition.The crystal structure,valence state of the ele-ments,micromorphology,and HER catalytic performance of the catalyst were systematically analyzed using X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and an electro-chemical workstation(CHI660E).The results showed that the catalyst exhibited excellent HER catalytic performance in a 1 mol/L KOH electrolyte,with an overpotential of only-217 mV at a current density of-10 mA/cm2,corresponding to a Tafel slope of 77.4 mV/dec.Moreover,the catalyst demonstrated good catalytic stability and corrosion resistance in a 24-hour constant potential HER stability test.The excellent catalytic performance for HER of NiO/KNbO3 catalyst was ascribed to the synergistic effect of NiO and KNbO3,as well as the unique heterogeneous nanocomposite structure,which increased the exposure of active sites and improved the ion transport pathways.关键词
