Abstract

Through finite element simulation,the bending deformation capacity of large diameter submerged-arc welded helical pipe designed based on strain design is studied.The main failure mode of steel pipes under bending load is local buckling deformation of the pipe wall.Bending moment,curvature and ovalization are monitored through the numerical analysis,and comparison is conducted with available test data on two 1 067 mm diameter pipes,with D/t ratio of 67 and 119,described in detail.The actual performance of the material,initial geometric defects,and residual stress on the local buckling deformation of submerged-arc welded helical pipe were also analyzed.The critical bending strain and curvature obtained from simulation calculations are consistent with the results of physical experiments and existing empirical formulas.
