Can the Digital Economy Promote"Emission Reduction"?Based on Spatial Effect Analysis

Abstract
With the proposal of ecological security,environmental issues have become a great challenge currently faced.Simultaneously,with the advancement of big data,the Internet,and cloud computing,China's economy is progressing towards the digital economy era.This study focuses on investigating the potential impact of this transition on emission reduction.Utilizing panel data encompassing 291 prefecture-level cities in China from 2011 to 2021,the research employs a spatial econometric model to empirically analyze the effect mechanism of the development of the digital economy on emission reduction.The study reveals the following key findings:firstly,a significant negative correlation is observed between the development of the digital economy and carbon emissions.Importantly,this conclusion remains robust even after accounting for the impact of"the Belt and Road Initiative".Secondly,the digital economy promotes emission reduction through industrial restructuring and green technology innovation,and this effect has a certain spatial heterogeneity.Finally,relatively scientific emission reduction strategies are put forward based on the emission reduction characteristics of different regions.关键词
