Abstract

To study the effects of leucine and arginine as signaling molecules in regulating the growth of turbot,juvenile turbot(initial body weight(13.50±0.19)g)were randomly assigned to four diets:50%protein(positive control),45%protein(negative control),45%protein supplemented with 1%leucine(LP+L),and 45%protein supplemented with 1%arginine(LP+R).After 56 d feeding trial,growth performance and feed utilization of juvenile turbot were measured.The results showed that addition of leucine and arginine ameliorated the reduced specific growth rate,protein efficiency and weight gain rate of turbot caused by low-protein diet.Addition of 1%leucine and 1%arginine effectively enhanced the postprandial phosphorylation of TOR,ribosomal protein S6,and the eIF4E-binding protein 1 in liver and muscle.Moreover,1%arginine increased the activities of amylase and lipase in turbot's intestines,and significantly increased the levels of serum total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC),catalase(CAT)and lysozyme(LYZ)in serum.Our results showed that adding 1%leucine or 1%arginine to low-protein diet can activate mTOR signaling pathway and effectively improve the growth performance and protein efficiency ratio,while 1%arginine could improve digestive enzyme activity,non-specific immune reaction of turbot.
