Effect of Calcium Chloride on Sugar Beet Seed Priming

Abstract
[Objective]To study the effect of different calcium chloride treatments on the vitality of sugar beet seeds and provide a theoretical reference for screening suitable initiators.[Methods]This study used seeds of sugar beet variety'TD801'as experimental materials.Nine treatments were set with calcium chloride concentrations of 5,10 and 15 mmol/L and times of 8,16 and 24 hours(without priming dry seeds as the control).The sugar beet seeds were soaked and their germination potential,germination rate,germination index and other traits were measured to analyze their impact on the vitality of sugar beet seeds.[Results]The treatment with 5 mmol/L and 10 mmol/L calcium chloride for 8,16 and 24 hours had a better initiating effect and could effectively promote the germination of seeds of sugar beet variety'TD801'.Compared with the control,the germination potential and germination rate of the 5 mmol/L and 10 mmol/L calcium chloride treatments increased by 0.34-9.00 and 3.00-8.00 percentage points,respectively;the germination index and vitality index increased by 16.31-40.14%and 6.51-38.01%,respectively,and the electrical conductivity decreased by 24.53-51.37 percentage points.Specifically,the germination potential and germination rate of under the treatment of 5 mmol/L calcium chloride for 16 hours increased by 9.00 and 8.00 percentage points,respectively,and the germination index and vitality index increased by 40.14%and 38.01%,respectively,with a conductivity decrease of 51.37 percentage points compared to the control.[Conclusion]Overall,5 mmol/L calcium chloride had the best priming effect on sugar beet seeds after 16 hours of treatment.关键词
