摘要

Abstract

The maxillofacial skeleton is a multifunctional organ with functions such as masticatory movement,mechanical weight bearing,and support of soft tissues to maintain facial aesthetics.Jaw bone defects lead to facial deformity and loss of jaw function,which seriously affects the patient's quality of life.Bone tissue exceeding the critical size cannot repair and regenerate on its own and often requires the implantation of bone graft material to restore function.Considering the drawbacks of autograft and allograft techniques(e.g.,high morbidity,high failure rate,and host rejection),bone tissue engineering(BTE)has been widely used as a strategy to treat bone defects.Organic polymers and titanium alloys have been more frequently used in BTE due to their excellent biocompatibility,and different material surface modification methods have been applied to BTE scaffolds to improve their biocompatibility as well as to achieve functionalization.In addition,different manufacturing methods for bone tissue engineering scaffolds have a great impact on the performance of scaffolds,especially in terms of accuracy,economy,and manufacturing speed.Therefore,this paper aims to review the research progress of bone tissue engineering scaffolds for maxillofacial bone defect repair,especially focusing on the classification of materials and fabrication methods,and to discuss and prospect the development direction of these scaffolds.
