Abstract
The establishment of the pilot free trade zone is a strategic move for China to comprehensively deepen reform and expand o-pening up in the new era,which has far-reaching significance for the high-quality development of the urban economy.Based on the data of 275 cities in China from 2005 to 2019,this paper uses the PSM-DID method to evaluate the impact and mechanism of the establishment of the pilot free trade zone on the high-quality development of the urban economy.The results show that the construction of the pilot free trade zone has significantly promoted the high-quality economic development of the cities where they are located.From a subregional perspective,the construction of inland pilot free trade zones has a greater effect on high-quality economic development than coastal pilot free trade zones.For coastal areas,the promotion effect of the construction of pilot free trade zones on high-quality economic development is mainly reflected in the Yangtze River Delta.In terms of time,the pilot free trade zones established in the first and third batches have more impact on the high-quality development of the urban economy.The mechanism test shows that the construction of the pilot free trade zone can promote the high-quality development of the urban economy through institutional effect,investment effect,trade effect,and financial effect.Further research shows that the construction of pilot free trade zones will not only promote the high-quality economic development of the cities where they are located but also have a"siphon effect"on the economic development quality of neighboring cities.关键词
