Abstract

The smoke pollution of asphalt pavement is serious during construction.There is hidden danger of fire risk in service,which seriously endangers driving safety.Therefore,it is imperative to develop smoke suppression and fire retardant asphalt pavement materials.The smoke suppressant and flame retardant are added to asphalt mixture respectively on traditional smoke suppression and flame retardant pavement which has many processes,and exces-sive smoke suppressant and flame retardant will cause the deterioration of pavement performance,which is not con-ducive to the long-term service of the pavement.The microcapsule technology can balance both smoke suppression and flame retardant properties.The shell of the microcapsule was made of expanded graphite and activated carbon with good smoke suppression properties.The core material was made from magnesium hydroxide and montmorillonite with excellent flame retardant properties.In this paper,a major study on the suppression effect of asphalt smoke was conducted.It was found that when the content of microcapsules was 3%,the suppression effect of CO and VOCs in smoke was the best with the susppresion rate of 49%and 40%.Because of the smoke suppression shell,it can restrain the smoke and prevent the core material from leaking effectively to protect the pavement performance and reducing the damage of various inhibitors to the asphalt pavement.
