Effect of indirect breeding on morphological characters in Oujiang color common carp

Abstract
The body weight usually used as a targeted trait in fish breeding practices,but the morphological traits are always affected by indirect-breeding because of their correlation with body weight.In this work,five breeding strains of Oujiang color common carp(Cyprinus carpio var.color),namely Quanhong,Dahua,Mahua,Fenyu and Fenhua,selected by body weight and coloration for 11 generations and their foundation population were used to analyze effect of indirect-breeding on the morphological trains.The one-way ANOVA indicated that 16-21 morpho-logical traits performed significant difference between the five breeding strains and the foundation population(P<0.05)within 25 investigated traits.The difference multiple analysis found that two morphological traits were signi-ficantly up-regulated in the five breeding strains,and one morphological strain was significantly down-regulated in the foundation population.The principal component analysis showed that all the five breeding strains could be clearly distinguished from the foundation population.The cluster analysis showed that all the individuals of the foundation population were clustered into one branch,which was far away from the five breeding strains.The dis-crimination accuracy between the breeding strains and the foundation population reached 100%by the discriminant analysis.However,the above analyses showed there were lowly morphological difference and difficult discrimination among the five breeding strains.It could be concluded that the indirect-breeding process has made significant effect on the morphological traits in Oujiang color common carp.关键词
